Introduction and Inspiration

David Frost describes himself as a Vermonter by birth, a Jersey boy by upbringing, and a San Diego resident by choice. Growing up with six brothers and sisters, he fondly recalls his “Happy Days” childhood. His professional journey is divided into three acts—his service in the U.S. Navy, a successful career in American business, and his current entrepreneurial venture in the wellness industry. David studied engineering and leadership at the U.S. Naval Academy and later earned a master’s degree in Systems Management from the University of Southern California.

He shares that his inspiration to pursue a career in wellness was rooted in personal experience and resilience. After sustaining a serious back injury in 2001 that required spinal fusion, David experienced a transformative recovery that motivated him to help others achieve better health and vitality. In 2016, he founded Well Past Forty LLC as a platform to promote movement and longevity, guiding others to thrive into their nineties. Through his work as a master fitness trainer, author, lifestyle coach, and group instructor, David advocates his lifelong mission—to Keep America’s Healthspan UNAbated, affectionately known as “the big KAHUNA.”

Defining Success in 2025

For David Frost, success is the quality of one’s journey—how challenges are faced, and how valuable lessons from credible mentors and experiences are applied. He references advice from an Olympic rowing champion who taught him three critical principles: be a student of your pursuit, surround yourself with good resources, and always train as if you are in second place.

David believes that time is our most valuable resource, urging reflection on how each day contributes to making the world better. He emphasizes that understanding why we do something is as important as what we do. His personal mission to combat heart disease and advocate for “healthitude” stems from his innate drive to tackle complex societal issues.

He acknowledges that his definition of success has evolved through different career phases—from intuitive leadership in the Navy to emotionally intelligent management in business. Empathy and mindfulness have become core elements of his leadership philosophy. As he looks toward the future, David envisions success increasingly tied to technological advancement, including telemedicine and machine learning, while reminding us that true progress must remain grounded in human relationships and authentic service to society.

Vision for the Future

David Frost’s vision is built on optimism and the belief that every individual can achieve lasting health and vitality. Quoting Henry Ford’s words, “Whether you think you can, or cannot—you are right,” he urges others to embrace the power of belief and perseverance. Through Well Past Forty LLC, he blends research-backed insights with practical, experience-driven advice to empower people to live healthier, longer, and more fulfilling lives.

Unlike many in his industry, David emphasizes a natural approach to wellness, combining modern tools like fitness technology with time-tested habits and movement practices. His credibility stems from lived experience—overcoming spinal surgery, battling genetic heart conditions, and confronting melanoma. His empathetic, hands-on guidance makes him a relatable and trusted figure in health and wellness.

Fostering Innovation and Adaptability

David fosters innovation through curiosity and critical thinking, encouraging his clients and students to ask questions like curious children once did. He often takes unconventional approaches, drawing inspiration from his distant relative, poet Robert Frost, who famously wrote about taking the road less traveled.

One notable example of innovation in his career involved collaborating with the Veterans Administration and U.S. Rowing to use rowing as therapy for veterans suffering from traumatic brain injuries and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This hybrid approach proved transformative, demonstrating how motion can indeed be medicine.

Resilience and Growth through Adversity

David believes that preparation and mindfulness are key to resilience. He references the Apollo 13 mission as the most successful failure in history, teaching the importance of preparation, adaptability, and learning from mistakes. Personally, his 2001 spinal injury became a pivotal moment that fueled his third career in health and wellness. His recovery and subsequent success in Masters Rowing, including several world championships, stand as powerful examples of turning setbacks into opportunities for growth.

Empowering Leadership and Mentorship

For David Frost, leadership begins with acquiring and nurturing great human capital. He emphasizes the importance of communication, mentorship, and empowerment, ensuring that the next generation is prepared to carry forward the mission. As a mentor, he encouraged his technical teams to take calculated risks and explore “what if” scenarios that advanced innovation and research.

As a mentee, David credits his coaches, mentors, and “rabbis” for instilling both hard and soft skills, shaping him into a leader capable of inspiring trust and driving performance.

Addressing Global Challenges

David views health as the most pressing global issue, particularly the prevalence of preventable diseases like heart disease. While he acknowledges that he may not have the resources of global philanthropists, he believes that personal action—sweat equity—can make a world of difference. Through his teachings and example, he distills complex health concepts into practical, sustainable habits that individuals can adopt to enhance their quality of life.

The Impact of Emerging Technologies

David believes that machine learning will play a transformative role in health and wellness, but he also warns against ignoring potential political, social, and ethical implications. He introduces an alternative “AI” concept from economist Daryl Fairweather—asymmetric information—which focuses on leveraging unique knowledge and perspectives to better serve society. For David, technology must remain a servant of humanity, not its master.

Risk-Taking and Decision-Making

David views risk-taking as a natural part of life and leadership. He references Peter Bernstein’s Against the Gods and Daniel Kahneman’s works on behavioral economics as essential readings for understanding risk and human decision-making. He applies similar principles in advocating physical motion, explaining that the “return on invested sweat” can yield exponential benefits for health and longevity.

Crisis Management and Response

David emphasizes the importance of preparation, citing the rigorous training methods of special operations teams. His own experience managing a real-life crisis—resuscitating a fellow rower who suffered cardiac arrest during practice—illustrates his belief in readiness and teamwork. His CPR training and use of an AED device were instrumental in saving a life, reinforcing the value of preparation under pressure.

Prioritizing Team Well-being

David actively promotes wellness initiatives within organizations, highlighting that healthy employees are more productive and engaged. Through outreach programs, he addresses conditions such as metabolic syndrome, hypertension, insulin sensitivity, and obesity. His approach to workplace wellness focuses on behavioral interventions that improve overall health, morale, and organizational success.

Self-Reflection and Continuous Growth

David practices self-reflection through his daily “MORNING” mantra:
Make your bed, Observe your health metrics, Reflect on goals, Nourish your body, Invigorate with movement, Note your network connections, and express Gratitude. This structured mindfulness routine enables him to maintain focus, gratitude, and personal growth, setting the tone for success each day.

Notable Achievements and Milestones

David’s career is marked by distinguished achievements, including being named an Outstanding College Athlete of America and receiving the U.S. Naval Academy’s Rusty Callow Award. He was recognized with the Technology Achievement Award from Martin Marietta Corporation in 2004 and was featured in Marquis Who’s Who in Business 2025. Additionally, he founded Community Rowing San Diego, a public benefit corporation that provides recreational opportunities for underserved communities.

The Power of Trust and Authentic Leadership

David Frost concludes with a message of trust and unity, emphasizing that true leadership is built on mutual respect and shared purpose. Throughout his life—whether handling nuclear weapons, leading naval crews, or coaching clients—he has lived by the principle that trust is the foundation of all great achievements. As he puts it, “TRUST… True Resilience Upheld by Sincere Teamwork.”

In conclusion, David Frost’s journey is a powerful testament to resilience, adaptability, and purpose-driven leadership. From his early days in the U.S. Navy to his current mission with Well Past Forty LLC, David has consistently demonstrated that true success lies not in titles or accolades but in the ability to inspire, uplift, and transform lives. His unwavering commitment to health, personal growth, and community empowerment continues to redefine what it means to live well and lead with integrity in 2025 and beyond.
